PETA supports the efforts of the Scrap Factory Farming campaign because industrial farming is a stain and a drain on the planet – one that sullies the UK’s reputation as a nation that cares about animals. These filthy mega-prisons are a nightmare for the animals who are crammed into them as if they weren’t living, feeling beings. They’re deprived of everything that’s natural and important to them. Intensive agriculture is environmentally destructive, both locally and globally, and creates breeding grounds for deadly diseases like bird flu. Factory farming – just like the consumption by humans of other animals’ body parts and excretions – is out of touch with our understanding of who animals are and hugely damaging to the planet and our own health.
