“I co-founded the pressure group Chickens’ Lib in the early 1970s. For some years we limited our protests to the shocking cruelty inherent in the battery cage system, later expanding our scope to include all farmed birds, from quail to ostriches, including game birds. From early on in our work we opposed the reckless squandering on farms of antibiotics.

I wholeheartedly support Humane Being in its challenge and believe that the protection of Planet Earth is a matter of the greatest urgency.

In my first book I quoted the following inspirational words of Fritz Schumacher. Increasingly, these words serve to sum up my own feelings: “Modern civilization can survive only if it begins again to educate the heart, which is the source of wisdom; for modern man is now far too clever to survive without wisdom.”
